Programs

The Whipper Home operates the Whipper Helps Youth (WHY) program and the Transitional Housing Program (THP) which provide residential care for up to twenty-six young women who are wards of the District of Columbia. The components of the WHY program and the THP include the following:

The Intensive Living Program (ILP) enables the girls to master the skills for self-sufficiency by setting individualized goals and making the accomplishment of those goals possible through intense life skill building and experiential approaches that address the realities of day-to-day life;

The Transitional Apartment Program (TAP) provides a realistic transitional environment from group living to community living;

The Summer Tutorial Enrichment Program (STEP) offers intense academic skills building and cultural, therapeutic and recreational programs needed to improve educational readiness and build self-esteem;

The Whipper Helps Educate Youth (WHEY) program provides academic assessment, remediation, and individualized tutorial support to build academic skills, as well as that vocational support system necessary for independence and the successful completion of high school.
